Giant puppets with the True Manhood messages entertain the guests during the True Manhood national launch in Kampala, June 2009.
CDFU hosts the Y.E.A.H Implementation Unit. Y.E.A.H is an initiative of the Uganda AIDS Commission implemented by partners. The Y.E.A.H Initiative which began in 2004 has so far successfully implemented 2 campaigns: “Something for Something Love” and the “Be a Man” Phase one.
A new and third campaign codenamed “True Manhood” was launched in June 2009 and will run till Septembers 2010. “True Manhood” challenges gender construction of young men about what it means to be a man and its link to HIV infection.
Based on the formative research, Y.E.A.H. developed the communication strategy for “True Manhood” and multimedia materials for radio, print, training support and community outreach. All the materials were developed using recommended processes that included review by Young People’s Advisory Groups (YAGS) and by the Technical Advisory Team (TAT), pre-testing among the audiences and approvals from the Uganda AIDS Commission.
New innovative channels like Puppet theatre were employed.
